Top 10 Things You Do at Work (Instead of Working)

Now, this list isn't all about me. I tend to think I keep myself pretty busy during work hours, though everyone likes to take a break now and then. This list includes things I have witnessed as "time passers" over the last few years.

10. Delete Spam
It seems like I end up spending too much of my life deleting unwanted email. Sometimes I get motivated to try and get off of these stupid lists, but they just seem to come back a month later if your successful. It's an epidemic.

9. Doodle
I like to draw cartoons. Anywhere, anytime...give me a piece of paper and a writing utensil and I'm on it.

8. Watch Movie Trailers
Luckily you can check back to Apple's Quicktime movie trailer page once a week or so and still be current, otherwise you'd spend your entire life there.

7. PhotoshopContest.com
You start with a pre-selected picture, and then you add blood splatters and low-brow humor (if you want to get any votes, that is). Good fun.

6. Browse eBay
Self-explanatory. Bid on things you don't need (and a few you actually do).

5. Google
"Google-ing." I don't know if it's a real term yet or not, but it will be. "Google-ing" to me means searching for things that aren't necessarily useful or productive. If it's for a real purpose, that's "searching." For example, Google-based fun includes searching for you own name.

4. Blog
I'm not a blogging freak, which I'm sure you can tell my by somewhat infrequent posts, but when something pops into your head, it's a great thing to be able to jot it down somewhere.

3. Read
News, entertainment, etc. The internet is a great way to keep informed, or just pass a little time. My favorites are CNN, MacCentral, Dallas Morning News and various blogs, of course.

2. Chat
While I can see how it could easily be abused, I find instant messaging to be a great way to collaborate. If I have a coding question, I can message one of my buddies for help. It's also a great way to keep up with Brad's latest bowel movement annoucements.

1. Quake/Unreal/Medal of Honor/Half-Life/etc/etc
Games are a great source of stress relief. However, since they are banned on all DoD computers, my gaming alter-ego, Son of Sam I Am, has gone into semi-retirement. *sniff*
