Top 10 Made-for-TV Movies

You know what the problem is with made-for-tv movies? You can't remember any of them. I dug through my shallow memory to find a few gems for this list...hope you enjoy it.

10. What the Deaf Man Heard
You could put dozens of Hallmark Hall of Fame movies on a list like this, but I'll try not to. This was a cute movie starring Matthew Modine as a guy everyone shared their troubles with because they thought he was deaf/mute. When he's asked to testify at a trial, he starts talking, which freaks everyone out to say the least. Funny, but of course a bit sappy in that Hallmark kind of way.

9. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)
All of the Peanuts films are great, but this has to be the finest.

8. Brian's Song (1970)
The original...not the recent Disney remake (though I hear it was pretty good). This is a very touching movie about football. Seriously. If you've never seen it, you've been living under a very obscure rock.

7. Kennedy (1983)
I watched a little of this, but was too young to really care. So why did it make this list? Because if it wasn't for this movie, Martin Sheen would probably not be president on The West Wing, which would be a crying shame.

6. Dr. Strange
I have a very vague recollection of this. It was a pilot movie for a series that never really happened. Could have been cool, but just kind of fizzled...but since it's Dr. Strange, you have to love it anyway.

5. Rescue from Gilligan's Island
This is one of those movies that was so bad, you just have to love it. It's been a long time since I've seen it...all I really remember is how the Professor kept inventing things that had already been invented (like a skateboard). The castaways should have been left on the island for eternity, but this movie still deserves a watch for a good chuckle or two.

4. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
If you can ignore the really bad stop motion animation, you'll always love this movie. This little film has withstood the test of time. I try and watch it pretty much every year, and now that I have kids...I'll have a real excuse to do it.

3. The Day After
You either love it, hate it or (like me) could care less. However, you can't deny the impact of this movie. I was only 10 when this came out, but I remember the stir it caused. What would happen the day after a nuclear attack? We'd probably be glowing too much to care.

2. Fail Safe (2000)
Live television? You bet. This sounded pretty gimmicky, and probably was, but I really enjoyed it. George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Richard Dreyfuss, Noah Wyle, Brian Dennehy, Hank Azaria, Don Cheadle...how could you NOT love this live remake??

1. Dune (Sci Fi Channel)
Remember the movie with Sting? (Maybe that's not the way to recall it, but it works.) Well, this is much, much longer...and I think it's much, much better. My brother and I watched it one night...I think it was six hours or so. Good stuff.
